Minorities in Asia and Africa in Focus
On 9-10 October 2015 Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg hosted the international conference “Minorities and Conflicts: Asia and African states in the Modern World”, which was organized by the Department of Asian and African Studies and the Centre for Asian and African Studies. The conference welcomed Russian and international researchers from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Armenia, Turkey South Africa and South Korea, as well as students and PhD candidates from St. Petersburg’s universities.

World Congress of the International Council for Central and East European Studies

On August 3rd-8th 2015, a working group from the International Research Project ‘Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism’ took part in the ICCEES Congress in Japan.

International Joint Seminar of HSE History Students Took Place at HSE Saint Petersburg

The first part of the seminar ‘Culture of Historical Memory: World War II and Political Regimes of the 20th Century’, dedicated to the politics of history and memory of World War II in Germany, controversies and intersections between public, family and private memories of the war was held at Humboldt University in Berlin on July 6-12.

HSE Lecturers Took Part in the Conference in France

On March 16-20 Mikhail Antonov, Associate Professor at the Department of Theory and History of Law and State and Sergei Akopov, Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science delivered a series of lectures in English and French on legal and political system of the Russian Federation during the conference orgaznised by HSE partner university Science Po Aix-en-Provence.

HSE Professor Christian Welzel awarded 2014 Stein Rokkan Prize

Christian Welzel, leading professor at the Laboratory for Comparative Social Research (LCSR) HSE St Petersburg received the 2014 Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research in recognition of his book 'Freedom Rising: Human Empowerment and the Quest for Emancipation'.
