On September 21, 2021, a delegation from an accredited Business School of Rennes (France) visited HSE campus in Saint Petersburg to sign a partnership agreement and discuss future plans for international academic mobility and exchange programmes.

The meeting took place at HSE campus in Saint Petersburg – located in a picturesque setting by the Griboedov Canal flowing through the very centre of St Petersburg.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the Centre for International Cooperation Mr Konstantin Platonov conducted a quick tour around the campus and made a presentation of the Higher School of Economics and the HSE Saint Petersburg campus, paying special attention to English-taught programmes.

An Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Affairs at HSE campus in Saint Petersburg Ms Liudmila Veselova gave a brief overview of the English-language Master’s degree programme 'Business and Politics in Modern Asia' and highlighted possible forms of collaboration with the Business School of Rennes on a Double Degree Programme.

Actually, we have already had discussions on the Master’s degree programme during our last online 'Geopolitic Café' meeting, so we are truly pleased to know that French students continue to show great interest in doing their postgraduate studies in Russia.

Also, in his welcoming speech Deputy Dean of St Petersburg School of Economics and Management, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Finance Mr Victor Krakovich gave a brief introduction of the St Petersburg School of Economics and Management of the Higher School of Economics and spoke about the educational programmes implemented within the faculty.

From the French side, among the delegation attending the meeting were the Head of the Department of Geopolitics of the Rennes School of Business Dr Thomas Flichy de La Neuville and an Administrative Officer and a Researcher of the Chair of Geopolitics Louis-Charles Beyeler.

The French delegation presented the Rennes School of Business, described its educational programmes and expressed its enthusiasm at the start of cooperation between HSE University and the Rennes School of Business. In particular, the delegation showed interest in expanding cooperation in terms of organizing short-term internships for postgraduate students, a topic that is in high demand for French students.

In its turn, the Russian side proposed an initiative to implement short-term internship programmes on the basis of the University’s research centres and business incubators, which will allow both Russian and French students to work together on various projects.

In the course of the visit, Prof. Flichy also gave an open lecture for students of the Master's program “Business and Politics in Modern Asia”, at which he discussed the topic of modern society and the role of culture in the period of total digitalization. It is also worth noting that the professor will give a course on geopolitics as part of the Master’s Programme.

At HSE University, we have developed a strong relationship with foreign universities, and we will continue to expand our pool of partnerships. Also, the good news is that today some HSE students are already studying in France on exchange programmes.

We are honoured to be able to include the accredited Rennes School of Business in the list of partner universities, and we hope for a lasting and fruitful cooperation with the institution.

Rennes School of Business is triple-accredited by the three major business education accreditation bodies AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. It attests the excellence of the teaching and research programs of the management School.

The meeting allowed us to discuss a lot of areas for prospective collaboration. The parties agreed to continue working on new projects in further discussions and future correspondence.
