HSE University–St Petersburg Director Anna Tyshetskaya and other university representatives held a series of meetings in Delhi, Jaipur, Amritsar, Gurgaon, and Manipal. The visit resulted in new agreements with leading Indian universities.

HSE signed an agreement on academic mobility for students, PhD students, and faculty with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi)—one of the top 12 technological universities in India. IIT Delhi ranks 44th in the QS World University Rankings 2025, plays a key role in training engineering personnel for the Indian economy, and conducts research across various fields—from computer science and biology to physics and industrial design. The universities agreed to carry out research and implement joint projects in key directions.

The agreement with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) includes semester- and year-long student exchanges, academic and administrative staff mobility, and the development of joint research and educational programmes. The five-year agreement provides for research events and the integration of research competencies. MAHE ranks 31st among Indian universities in NIRF Rankings and is one of the largest private research universities in the country, with a well-developed international network of campuses.

The memorandum of understanding with the Management Development Institute Gurgaon (MDI Gurgaon) is aimed at the development of joint research and educational programmes in management, digital economics, sustainable development, and the use of artificial intelligence in business. MDI Gurgaon is among the top 10 business schools in India according to NIRF Rankings and is a recognised centre for training management personnel for leading Indian and international corporations.

Anna Tyshetskaya

Director of HSE University–St Petersburg

India is a key strategic partner of HSE University. The campus in St Petersburg has eleven active agreements with nine Indian universities, including the best technological institutions in Delhi and Mumbai. Over two and a half years, we founded two international mirror laboratories. New agreements with leading universities signed during the visit open up prospects for implementing joint projects in digital economics, artificial intelligence, sustainable development, and space technologies. Given that HSE University is one of the leaders in Russia in the sphere of advanced science and technology, consolidation with the best Indian universities will allow both countries to effectively address lots of strategic tasks.

In a meeting with Prof. Yogesh Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, the parties discussed the development of an international mirror laboratory on transmission, storage, and data processing in space systems involving the company Geoscan. They also reached an agreement on mutual academic student exchange and faculty mobility. The University of Delhi occupies 11th place in the national NIRF Ranking. It is one of the oldest and largest universities in India; its graduates hold key positions in public administration and the country's business.

As honoured guests, the delegation from HSE University–St Petersburg took part in the fourth international conference AICGS-2025 (Annual International Conference on Global Synergies) at LPU (Lovely Professional University). Participants from 25 educational institutions and 15 countries discussed approaches to international academic cooperation in the age of global challenges.

In addition to Director Anna Tyshetskaya, HSE University–St Petersburg was represented by Manoj Sharma, Vice President, Dmitry Selivanov, Head of the India Unit, Mitya Kharshak, Dean of the School of Art and Design, Galina Alferova, lecturer at the Department of Media, Elena Yaskevich, lecturer at the Department of Finance, and Valeria Konyaeva, manager at the International Office. Experts from HSE University-St Petersburg held guest lectures and workshops for Indian students on international financial reporting standards, the branding and visual communications of cultural institutions, and generating ideas in creative industries.

Anna Tyshetskaya was the key speaker at the opening ceremony of the conference. In her speech, the director of HSE University-St Petersburg highlighted the role of universities as key actors in establishing international cooperation: 'Education and culture have always been powers that unite people. Today, more than 30,000 Indian students are studying in Russia, with more than a thousand in St Petersburg. Russian and Indian scientists jointly solve strategic problems in the spheres of peaceful nuclear energy, oil and gas research, space technologies, and artificial intelligence,' she summed up.

Lecturer at the Department of Finance, School of Economics and Management

I gave a lecture on international financial reporting standards. I liked the involvement of Indian students and their level of training. We also had a very fruitful meeting with the dean of the school of business. We discussed various cooperation opportunities: participation in conferences, joint research, faculty exchange, and winter and summer schools. HSE University–St Petersburg professors were part of the grand opening ceremony of the conference and the signing of bilateral agreements on mutual activities between universities in all the participating countries. We were greeted by the university rector himself. I was impressed by how the host university organised everything as well as the friendliness of the organisers, participants, students, and professors.

Mitya Kharshak

Dean of the School of Art and Design

We talked with students of the LPU Faculty of Design about branding and visual communications of museums, theatres, and festivals. As a designer, I was very lucky to work with leading Russian cultural institutions. This is where the master's programme 'Art Direction for Cultural Institutions' comes from. I told our Indian colleagues about that as well. Once again, I have seen how design is an international trans-border language understood all over the world.

I held a workshop for LPU students on generating ideas in creative industries using a technique I designed—a game is based on TRIZ methods. The participants had to come up with ideas for projects at the junction of the given characteristics, as the brain generates ideas better under restrictions. The students were very enthusiastic. More than 30 people attended the workshop, and everyone came up to me to talk and take pictures—the level of interest was huge.
