HSE University–St Petersburg's SEM and SCPT Sum Up Results of International Partners' Week
As part of IPW-2025, representatives of the School of Economics and Management (SEM) and the School of Computer Science, Physics and Technology (SCPT) of HSE University–St Petersburg discussed joint educational projects and research initiatives with their partners. International colleagues showed great interest in the expertise of HSE University–St Petersburg and a willingness to develop long-term partnerships.
Tatiana Lezina, Dean of the School of Economics and Management
For SEM, International Partners' Week was rich in vibrant and interesting meetings both with our long-standing partners and new colleagues from various universities.
With some guests of HSE University–St Petersburg, we discussed the details of cooperation as it wasn't our first meeting: SEM has well-established cooperation with universities in India and Indonesia. During IPW, we outlined certain stages of our joint projects.
Our meetings with new partners showed that the majority of universities have common interests: student exchange, the development of double-degree programmes, and organising guest lectures by visiting professors. Colleagues from Latin America showed interest in launching online projects. We agreed to hold joint conferences, case championships, and classes. The online format is efficient for several reasons, especially in terms of finances and time for implementing ideas. This will allow students to compare approaches to task-solving and conclusions offered by students from different countries. We are currently preparing proposals for further cooperation and discussing specific steps with our colleagues.
I would like to highlight the request of Hamad Bin Khalifa University to create joint programmes for training specialists in mathematical economics as they don't have any analogues to our expertise in economic and mathematical education. The National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek made a similar request: our colleagues there have a very important task—to establish an effective system of economic and mathematical education using our experience. These examples once again show the recognition of our school's strong expertise in technical and applied economics.
Victor Krakovich, Academic Supervisor of the programme 'International Bachelor's in Business and Economics'
I'm glad to see the results of our efforts to relaunch international activities at HSE University–St Petersburg. Many of the colleagues who we visited at universities in India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil have now come to visit us. Some of them are here for the second time, while some universities sent different representatives this year. Thus, the network of partners is expanding. This is only the second year of our revived International Partners' Week, and it has become a city-scale event straight away. The fact that the number of participants has almost doubled this year demonstrates the great level of interest in cooperation with our university. It's significant that this year, our colleagues brought specific initiatives; we are already actively working on many of them.
We made the most of our major competitive advantage: St Petersburg. As usual, the cultural programme was top tier: the Hermitage, Tsarskoye Selo, the Kotchoubey Centre... It's vital to show our campus and city to our partners. Both make a strong impression!
We also had a chance to show our daily life. Many people were surprised by the level of technical development in Russia. For instance, I gave a ride to one of my colleagues using a car-sharing service. He was in awe! Such technologies are part of people's lives in only a few places.
To sum up, I am very grateful to the organisers and the university administration for the opportunity to take part in this wonderful event. All the projects discussed give a good impetus to the development of educational and research activities at our faculty.

Mikhail Mukhin, Dean of the School of Computer Science, Physics and Technology
Our colleagues from ITS (Indonesia) took an interest in bioinformatics. At the moment, they don't have such a programme but have plans to create one. So, at the meeting with Igor Eliseev, Academic Supervisor of the master's programme 'Computational Biology and Bioinformatics', and Yuri Porozov, Head of the Laboratory for Bio- and Chemoinformatics, the guests from Indonesia asked how the educational process at HSE University–St Petersburg is structured. We discussed the principles of the programme, its industry partners, and the graduate profile. The professors of HSE University–St Petersburg confirmed their commitment to serve as consultants for ITS.
On Student Day, Dr Abhay Bansal, Dean of the IT faculty at Bennett University (India), delivered a lecture on cloud computing. He also invited the faculty staff to take part in the Global AI Summit 2025 as key speakers.
With the dean of the robot engineering faculty at Tokai University, we negotiated possible cooperation directions in optoelectronics and computer sciences. Our common interests include student exchange, joint research, tasks in optoelectronics, the physics of semiconductors, and photovoltaic converters (solar cells). Cooperation with HSE University–St Petersburg can be developed via Sakura Science (a programme for research support).
