PE classes at HSE - St Petersburg are not like regular PE classes at other universities.
The HSE – St Petersburg PE programme allows you to choose you own kind of class. For students’ convenience, there are multiple gym locations across the city.
The main gyms are located at academic buildings (Kantemirovskaya 3a and Nab.kanala Griboyedova 123), so students can efficiently plan their schedules and avoid losing time on transportation. The gyms at these locations offer aerobics, aesthetic and athletic gymnastics, self-defense and martial arts, yoga, and Pilates.
The gyms are stocked with modern exercise equipment. Students may learn how to use it with the help of instructors, who will explain how to properly put together your own personal exercise routine and will make sure that you perform all exercises correctly.
In addition to taking classes at these gyms locations, students have the opportunity to join a range of sports clubs, including volleyball, indoor soccer, basketball, table tennis, sports tourism, and chess. HSE students also regularly participate in inter-university, city, and regional sports competitions.
Since last year, the Department of Physical Education atHSE - St Petersburg has been organising weekend hiking trips outside St. Petersburg and to historical places of the Leningrad Region. Students now also have the opportunity to try their hand at terrain orientation.
For students with medical constraints there are therapeutic physical education classes, which are held at the gym in the academic building at the Griboedov kanal (123 Nab. Kanala Griboyedova).
Students may attend specific club practice sessions on a regular basis or try out a range of sports. All types of classes and competitions are also available for international students studying at HSE University St. Petersburg.
For students’ and instructors’ convenience, the department has developed and implemented a system of electronic attendance monitoring.
