Double Degree track with University of Vaasa

About the Double Degree track

The Double Degree track is organized according to the agreement between HSE St. Petersburg and the University of Vaasa (Univaasa). It implies that Master in Finance students have the opportunity to spend the second year in Vaasa at the programme “Master’s Degree Programme in Finance”, while Univaasa students can visit HSE St. Petersburg. The Double Degree Programme students will be eligible for two degrees if they successfully finish their studies at both universities.

- broaden and deepen their knowledge in the sphere of finance from national and international perspectives;

- get experience of international communication and education in a new environment;

- become more competitive and successful in the global labour market;

- develop academic career and enter the international PhD programme.

About the Master’s Degree Programme in Finance of Univaasa

The Master’s Degree Programme in Finance at Univaasa is designed to provide the students with knowledge of financial analysis theory from an international perspective and develops advanced skills in corporate finance, investments, and option pricing. The programme is the only Finance programme that is EPAS-accredited in Finland, the second CFA-affiliated Finance programme in Finland and fourth CFA-affiliated Finance programme in Nordic countries. This affiliation means that the Master’s Degree Programme in Finance fulfils two criteria:

(i)                the programme incorporates at least 70% of the curriculum that is needed in CFA credential;

(ii)              the programme fulfils the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. 

The Master's Degree Programme in Finance Univaasa is ranked 60th in the top 200 in Corporate Finance, Western Europe, in the Eduniversal Masters Ranking 2019.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Finance established a Bloomberg Lab starting from the academic year 2020-2021 that will be incorporated in the curricula. Bloomberg provides real-time data and analytics on global markets and industries, leading news coverage, proprietary research and access to a global network of financial professionals. This development will be established which significantly improves the business students possibilities to follow, analyze and simulate financial, capital and commodities markets.

Who can apply?

1st year students that

·                    study at the HSE St. Petersburg Master’s Programme in Finance

·                    have a certified knowledge of the English language at the level not lower than IELTS 6.5. or TOEFL IBT 92 or the relevant language test results confirmed by HSE St Petersburg (the Double Degree track is delivered in English in both universities)

Application Procedure

The track is open for 2 best students that are going to be selected by the Programme Board of Master in Finance based on their academic merits and motivation.

Applications and required documents should be downloaded in the LMS through the special module. The application period opens in January. The call and the list of the required documents are published in LMS every year.

Tuition Fees

Students participating in the Double Degree track pay tuition fees only at the Home University (if applicable).

The other costs associated with the program should be covered by the students:

·                    international travel;

·                    accommodation expenses;

·                    mandatory health insurance for international students or equivalent private insurance;

·                    textbooks and miscellaneous expenses

 

The mobility programme for the University of Vaasa and HSE St. Petersburg in 2020-2021 is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Finnish National Agency for Education and Erasmus+. The funding is designed to cover some of the costs of travelling and living abroad and it is available for double degree students of both universities within the framework of the bilateral agreement.

HSE St. Petersburg and the University of Vaasa mobility programme for Double Degree track is funded by Erasmus + и First +. The funding is available for double degree students and staff of HSE St. Petersburg within the framework of the bilateral agreement between two universities.

Final dissertation

Double Degree Programme students defend their final dissertation either at Univaasa or at HSE St Petersburg, which is valid for both universities. Double Degree Programme students have to produce a short video presentation about their final thesis that will be evaluated by a joint commission in terms of the oral presentation under the internal rules of Univaasa.

Some facts about University of Vaasa

Business studies at the University of Vaasa have participated in national teaching competitions organized by the Finnish Business School Graduates. University of Vaasa has been awarded for providing the best business courses on more occasions than any other institution in Finland – the latest awards were given 2019. 

University of Vaasa has made high profile partnerships with CERN and Kvarkens Space Center and now we are looking at the potential implementation of space-based data in teaching and research in our business studies, including finance.
