Speed Run Tour of Art Galleries in St. Petersburg:Study Project of the Master's Programme“Arts and Culture Management”

As a part of the study project, implemented by students of the Master’s Programme “Arts and Culture Management” under the supervision of Associate Professor of the Management Department Ekaterina Shekova, the speed run tour of art galleries in St. Petersburg was launched. The curators of this project are Daniil Gurin and Polina Kuznetsova, first-year students of the Master’s Programme “Arts and Culture Management”.

According to the students, "many foreign museums currently offer interesting curatorial and performance solutions. One of these projects, MoMA speed run, served as our starting point. We found it interesting to explore exhibitions in private galleries in St. Petersburg in a similar style, creating a network of contemporary art spaces in the city that allows for immersive experiences, similar to the characters in Godard's "Band of Outsiders" or Bertolucci's "Dreamers," where they quickly navigate through the Louvre."

Daniil Gurin

"It all started with the MoMA Speed Run. It's an incredible experience: you "run" through the legendary Museum of Modern Art in New York in a few minutes and see each work up close. It's free, exciting, and immersive. We wondered why there's no such thing in St. Petersburg, one of the world's richest art cities."

The project involves creating a website with an interactive map of art galleries in St. Petersburg, where visitors can not only learn about each gallery but also take virtual tours of the galleries' spaces and view the artworks on display.

Polina Kuznetsova

"Participating in the project is an opportunity to really influence how many people interested in art will discover contemporary art in St. Petersburg in a new way. By working on this project, I want to create not only a convenient digital guide to private galleries, but also to become part of a team that is making the hidden layer of the St. Petersburg art scene visible and accessible for the first time. During the implementation of the study project, we plan to improve our project management skills in arts and culture, digital marketing, working with video content, finding partners among galleries, and crowdfunding — from creating a compelling story to communicating with the community."

“The project allows many people to see exhibitions of St. Petersburg art galleries and their art collections online, and it also promotes the art galleries in the art market and advertise their events for a broad target audience not only in Russia but also abroad. As part of the study project, students learn how to develop collaborations with art galleries in St. Petersburg, define the target audiences of the project, choose appropriate communication channels, and raise resources for the project development.”
