The Programme constantly expands internship, research and exchange opportunities for students.
Exchange programmes provide students with the chance to spend one semester at a partner university abroad. These partners include the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland), Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), and many others. Students are eligible to participate in exchanges with any HSE partner institution. Many sponsor programmes exist, such as Erasmus+(Europe-wide), FIRST (Finland) or DAAD (Germany).
Internships both in Russia and abroad form an important part of the curriculum. The places for internships include various museums such as A.S. Popov Central Museum of Communications, Ice-breaker "Krassin", The Peterhof Museum Complex etc., archeological institutions, tour companies, media, and NGOs. Internships are compulsory for students and enable them to establish connections between theory and practice while making a contribution in communities of applied historians. There are two periods of internships: two weeks at the end of the first year of studies and three – four weeks during the second semester when the MA Thesis is being prepared. There are possibilities to take internships in other regions than Saint-Petersburg. In addition to internships, students are involved in other learning and project activities such as Summer Schools in Russia and abroad.
