How to apply
The programme solicits applicants with undergraduate degrees in history, other fields of humanities, social and political sciences, economics, law, natural sciences (especially geography and ecology) and engineering. Experience with working or volunteering in the public sphere or institutions that deal with problems of historical legacy and heritage might be an advantage for admission. Non-historians admitted to the program will be offered two introductory courses in history.
Citizens and non-citizens of the Russian Federation including exchange students are welcome to apply.
Applications should be submitted before the deadlines indicated above. Within three business days of receiving your application, the applicant is sent an acknowledgment of receipt. All documents submitted as part of your application that are not in English or Russian should have an official English or Russian translation and be in either PDF or JPEG formats. Please include your last name in the filename (for example, Smith_BADiploma.pdf or Ivanov_Passport.jpeg).

- Completed application form
Please submit a standard CV, including your educational achievements, work and research experience, publications (if any), and language proficiencies.
- Letter of motivation (300-500 words)
This letter should describe your motivation for applying to the program in reference to your long-term career goals and academic background.
- Scans of diplomas and academic transcripts
If you have not yet received your Bachelor’s diploma, please include an official copy of your most recent academic transcript.
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one from someone familiar with your academic work)
Please provide your recommenders with HSE’s letter of recommendation guidelines.
- Scan of English proficiency exam results (IELTS or TOEFL)
Native speakers of English and students who have completed a degree exclusively in English do not need to submit a proof of their proficiency in English. All other applicants should submit test results that are no more than two years old.
Successful applicants can apply for HSE full-tuition scholarships after admittance to the program.
The applicants may also apply for international scholarships funded by global and regional organizations.
