On Campus

When choosing a study destination, trying to learn more about the university or just reminiscing on your student years, there is nothing better than visiting a campus in person. Still, sometimes it is just not possible. The good news is that we have created something very special to help you see the campus with your own eyes and feel the vibes of our university

With the goal of minimizing the public health risk to our campus community related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, all in-person classes will be suspended at HSE University – St Petersburg starting March 17, 2020 until further notice.

In January, Saint Petersburg HSE Winter School hosted a group of students from Smith College, the United States. Besides courses on Russian culture and history, they had an intense programme: weekends in Moscow, going to a theatre and numerous museums, watching a hockey game, and much more. We asked some Winter School participants about their experience in Saint Petersburg and how it affected them.

Nikolay Kapanadze, a student of 'Asian and African Studies' bachelor’s programme, went for an exchange to Japan where he studied at Akita International University. The student tasted traditional food such as sushi and miso soup, travelled to Tokyo, and even worked in a local noodle restaurant. Nikolay told HSE – Saint Petersburg why it is necessary to have cash in Japan, where one can relax in Tokyo, and what are meal prices at the university canteen.

On December 13th, the First Internationalization for International Students Conference brought together international students and representatives of the HSE Saint Petersburg administration in order to discuss recent developments and new challenges in HSE's internationalization campaign.

Last week at HSE University – St. Petersburg turned out to be really eventful. First of all, we finally met our international freshmen, or at least most of them. The orientation sessions, followed by the Common Arrival Days, offered a chance to get acquainted with people, resources and processes.  Secondly, we celebrated HSE SPb Day devoted to the anniversary of the campus – it has turned  twenty  this year! During these years we have been dreaming about many things, but who doesn’t when they are young.

Addie Bacon, an American student from Smith College, who studies the Russian language and literature in the US. She had spent six months at HSE University St. Petersburg attending ‘Russian, Eurasian, and Post-Soviet Studies Programme’. Before she left to go back home we asked her a few questions about her experience studying and living in Russia.

This spring, HSE University - St. Petersburg has been especially lucky with old and new friends coming to visit. From 14th to 30th of May we hosted a group from University of Dayton, Ohio, that came to participate in the programme ‘Tolstoy’s Russia’ and to learn more about the past and present of our country.
