The Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies of the Institute of Asian and African Studies invites to join the International School for young Middle Eastern researchers «Contemporary studies of the Sultanate of Oman: methods, concepts, texts», which will be held from 25^th to 29^th of November, 2025.

Milana Iliushina, Head of the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies, visited the Sultanate of Oman as part of an official delegation from HSE University. The colleagues negotiated with Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouki, Minister of Education of Oman, on key areas of cooperation. They also met with the management of Nizwa University and Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat.

The II All-Russian Scientific Conference of Young Middle Eastern Researchers “Army and Military Traditions in the Middle East” ended at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of the HSE University. The project has been realised for two years already in cooperation with the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Irina Shishova, a 5th year student, won the prize in the section of Arabic Business Writing at the International Competition of Professionally Oriented Translation. Congratulations! The Arabic language programme at the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies for undergraduate students includes a number of specialized courses aimed at developing practical translation skills in various spheres - from classical poetry to media communication, commercial documents and business correspondence.

Students of the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies study the Arabic language, which has an official status in 24 countries of the world and major international organisations - UN, LAS, OIC, GCC.

On 23 September 2024 at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences the defence of the thesis of M.A. Kozintsev, senior lecturer of the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies, took place.
