The Joint Doctoral Program of the University of Turin and National Research University Higher School of Economics “Global History of Empires” commences its first academic year with the seminar series on the History of Empires. First year doctoral students in the program will be able to attend the seminars and receive consultations from invited speakers. The seminar series will provide opportunities for interaction between faculty of the program both at University of Turin and Higher School of Economics as well as discussion of key problems of imperial and global history in a broader academic setting.

The study trip of a  students group of the History Department to Berlin from May 2 to May 9 was organized with the support of DAAD associate professor Dietmar Wulff and the manager of the Center for Historical Research Vadim Popov. The seminar entitled «Between Pathos and Populism» was devoted to studying the conceptions of the memorial culture and historical policy in modern Germany.

BA Students Join a Field Trip to Germany

BA Students Join a Field Trip to Germany
Students of the BA programme in History at the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg together with the professors of the Department of History went on a field trip to Germany. Students together with Alexander Semyonov, Anton Kotenko and Dietmar Wulff visited Bonn University, Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg, and University of Leipzig. The field trip was supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). The theme of the trip was 'The Empire in a Global History'.

First part of the joint research seminar "Turning Points: Russia and Germany, 1980-2000"

A group of 15 BA and MA students from the Department of History, HSE SPb participated in the first part of a joint research and educational seminar “Turning Points: Russia and Germany, 1980-2000” organized by the Department of History, Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and Humboldt University in Berlin from 1st to 8th of May. The course was led by Ekaterina Kalemeneva (HSE SPb) and Krestin Bischl (HU zu Berlin).

On May 10-12, 2016, Professor David Shimmelpennink van der Oye (Brock University, Canada, a PhD (Yale University)) held a series of lectures "Russian Orientalism, 1700-1917", which were organized by the Department of History and Center for Historical research, HSE in St.Petersbsurg.

German University Students at HSE St. Petersburg

On September, 8th the HSE St Petersburg’s History Department opened a new Summer School on “The Topography of Imperial Power: the Political Space of St. Petersburg” . (The Academic Director of the school is Dr. Dietmar Wulff- long-term Associate Professor of DAAD and Associate Professor of the Department of History, HSE SPb.).
