Educational mission of St. Petersburg School of Arts and Humanities is to create new type of experts in Humanities with fundamental theoretical background as well as vast creative potential, critical thinking, entrepreneurial skills, ability to adapt to the constantly changing environment.
Educational programs offered by the faculty include core disciplines, special disciplines, electives from different HSE University faculties, likewise various optional courses and projects to participate in.
All the programs contain mandatory courses aimed at developing digital competencies for the field of Humanities.
Faculty students are presented with possibilities for taking internships at various organizations with high reputation in their area of expertise and specialization.
Throughout their studying students receive day-to-day support from our competent and responsive study offices.

Bachelor's programmes
1. History
The programme trains specialists, who are not only able to carry out archival work, but also engage in serious analytics and take part in interdisciplinary research projects in various languages. The guiding focus of the programme is to systematically develop such fields as global, comparative, and transnational history so that these subjects can serve as a potent tool for overcoming the limitations of the established canon of national history, as well as foster an interdisciplinary dialogue in the social sciences and the humanities. It also aims to help popularize historical knowledge, adherence to global academic and research standards, and integration into the international academic community. Furthermore, there is a specific focus on academic mobility, student involvement in research projects, and finding quality careers for graduates on the Russian and global job markets.

2. Philology
The BA programme in Philology offers a general humanistic education with an emphasis on comparative literature and linguistics. The programme is unique in combining essential philological training with the spirit of a liberal arts college. In particular, it brings together the traditional virtues of Russian university education, such as a carefully planned four-year curriculum, and the modern vision of humanistic knowledge, grounded in dialogue and admitting of diverse approaches and perspectives.

3. Design
The undergraduate programme in Design, launched in 2018 at HSE University in Saint Petersburg, is the first programme in the city founded upon the principles of modern design education. The success of the HSE School of Art and Design attests to the fact that academic study goes hand in hand with practical project work in the industry. The methodology of the School of Design allows students to experiment with various areas of design, gain experience of real design work, build a portfolio and become a strong designer who is ready to solve complex problems as part of a leading design studio team.

4. Media Communications
New programme. First enrolment in 2022
The bachelor’s programme in Media Communications is the first of its kind in St. Petersburg and northwest Russia. Its purpose is to train qualified writers and media project managers for various industries, from local social media communities to public, governmental and business organizations.
Students will gain real experience of project work, start putting together their portfolios from their first year of studies, and cooperate with various companies, foundations and museums in media communications.
Master's programmes
1. Global and Regional History
The course grounds students in the vibrant field of global history through a regional focus on Russian, former Soviet and Eurasian spaces. It draws on the proximity and wealth of archives and museum collections of St Petersburg and its rich environs, and on our academic strength in history and anthropology. Students benefit from the ease of travel to Moscow, Finland, the Baltics and multiple regional locations within Russia. Recent graduates are enrolled in PhD programmes at Princeton, Oxford, and European University Institute in Florence.

2. Media Production and Media Analysis
The programme is designed to teach students how to generate ideas for modern media projects: from smartphone apps to their own YouTube channel. Graduates will be able to work in leading 21st-century media: from advanced digital media (media websites, headquarters of social media and messenger companies, and web applications) to cultural industries (museums, studios producing audio-visual content, and digital publishers).

3. Russian Literature in Cross-cultural and Intermedial Perspective
The programme is designed for students with an interest in literature but who do not intend to obtain a degree in philology. Graduates of the programme will have the opportunity to build an academic career in Russia and abroad, as well as in the rapidly growing creative market, including magazines and publishing houses, internet projects, literary museums and libraries, cultural centres and centres of contemporary art, festivals and other creative venues.

4. Language Technology in Business and Education
This Master’s programme is aimed at training specialists so that they can possess two inter-complementary competencies: linguistic knowledge and skills in computer processing of languages. The programme provides practical training in two optional areas: language technologies in business and education. The programme’s graduates will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to develop careers in data science, NLP, digital teaching, and language testing.
5. Design
New programme. First enrolment in 2022
The master’s programme in Design is organized by HSE University in St. Petersburg and the HSE Art and Design School. The programme trains specialists in design and branding with an emphasis on working with cultural institutions. At the same time, students will gain skills and knowledge that can be applied in numerous fields outside the humanities.
During their studies, students of the programme will work with the State Hermitage Museum, the Russian Museum, the Manege Exhibition Hall and other museums in St. Petersburg.
