About the Division

The Division of Design and Contemporary Art is one of a few divisions opened by HSE School of Arts and Humanities in 2018. The Division’s aim is to become a leading educator in the fields of visual arts and design on the Russian and international academic markets.

The Division of Design and Contemporary Art, created in September 2018, organizes educational and academic initiatives in the fields of contemporary art and design. Building on the experience and tradition established by HSE Art and Design School, the Division’s staff prioritize a project-based approach that is attentive to the industry’s real demands. This allows our students, even whilst taking their undergraduate degree, to integrate into the Russian and international design markets and begin the first stages of their professional development.

The Division’s current research priorities include the implementation of interdisciplinary projects in the fields of contemporary art and visual research, publishing their results in esteemed international journals, and establishing a network of partnerships with Europe’s leading arts universities and urban cultural institutes.

Beyond educational and academic activity, the Division of Design and Contemporary Art plans to set up a public program of exhibitions and public lectures, which will not only be open to students and HSE staff, but also to locals and tourists.
