Meeting on water resources

On March 2, 2017 the Laboratory for Environmental and Technological History of HSE – St. Petersburg hosted a group of employees and students of the School of Management of the Radboud University of Nijmegen. 

The programme  was supported by the Netherlands Institute in St. Petersburg. The meeting discussed the history of water resources in Russia`s past and present as part of the study visit to Moscow and St. Petersburg. The visit was devoted to such research questions as the role of banyain Russian culture, water supply in Soviet and post-Soviet cities, access to water resources and Russian foreign policy, water pollution and Chernobyl, climate change, among others.

At the meeting, the head of the Laboratory, Professor Julia Lajus told about ongoing research on the history of water resources in the Laboratory. She also talked about the role of rivers in the past and present of St. Petersburg. Researcher of the Laboratory, senior lecturer Elena Kochetkova presented her research on water protection and pollution of Lake Baikal in the mid-20th century. The second part of the meeting was devoted to students` presentations on research projects. In the end, the supervisors of the group: Professor René ten Bos, HenkDonkers and Froukje van Zanten told about the purposes and plans of the study visit.
