Participants of our Research Group at Data Fest

On 11-12 of February DataFest took place in Mail.Ru Group office in Moscow. It is the conference dedicated to the Data Science and everything surrounding this sphere. HSE students and members of the Research Group "Machine Learning and Social Computing" took part in this event as listeners.

DataFest unites researchers, engineers and developers from various spheres of Data Science for the fourth time. The program schedule includes lectures for various listeners: either for those who use machine learning in their humanitarian researches or for those who are interested in State-of-the-Art methods for production. While lecturers give some notions in theory, at the same time there were session on practical experience in Data Science. During this session, guests had an opportunity to say some words about themselves and their research projects. After this, interesting cases were analyzed in details.

Irina Krylova, the member of our Research Group, on her impressions:

"It was our second time at the DataFest. From the last time we were sure, that we'll be here again the next year. It is very interesting to listen to the lectures and to talk to the specialists in Data Science. For half a year we are familiar with the analytic community, we have gotten so much valuable information about the Data Science sphere, that we had no confusion about the materials the speakers prepared and it was really useful. Some of the background knowledge we got at our minor program in Data Analysis and elective course Introduction to programming with R. For example, methods of Natural Language Processing, such as topic modeling are widely used in game researchers, which are similar to what our research group works on. The listeners vary more and more from year to year, our group from Saint-Petersburg is a good example: sociologists, economists, masters of the program "Big Data Analysis for Business, Economy and Society". However, we were glad to see our acquaintances from the previous fests"
