HSE University and UNESP Held a Joint Research Seminar on BRICS Studies
On May 29, an online seminar was held by the Department of Political Science and International Affairs of the HSE University in St. Petersburg and the Center for Research on Russia, Eurasia and the Post-Soviet Space (CIRE) at UNESP (Brazil).

CIRE is a research division of the Institute of Public Policies and International Relations at São Paulo State University (UNESP). The mission of CIRE is to conduct research on the political, economic, social, and cultural aspects of the development of the Eurasian region.
The academic seminar was dedicated to Brazil’s role in BRICS, as well as issues of Russian – Brazilian relations. The discussion was built around four presentations delivered by the research fellows of CIRE. Danielle Makio spoke about Brazil’s strategy towards BRICS during the country’s presidency in the organization. Getúlio de Almeida Neto’s presentation was focused on BRICS cooperation in the Arctic region. Maria Eduarda Carvalho de Araujo discussed the dynamics and prospects of Russian – Brazilian relations in the field of security. Pérsio Glória de Paula presented the Brazilian perspective on the concept of multipolarity in international relations.
«The seminar is an important step in our cooperation with UNESP. Research on BRICS and Post-Soviet space are important areas of scientific and educational activities in our department. During the meeting, we learned a lot about Brazil and its role in world politics, exchanged academic interests, and discussed further cooperation. I thank my colleagues from CIRE for very interesting presentations and hope that such seminars will become regular».
— Yury Kabanov, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science and International Affairs
«Participating in this seminar was extremely enriching. We had the valuable opportunity to engage with the insightful perspectives of our Russian colleagues, alongside thought provoking questions and reflections on BRICS and Russian-Brazilian relations. We believe that strengthening these academic ties is essential for deepening mutual understanding and fostering collaborative research between the epistemological communities of Brazil and Russia. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and expanding our partnership through future meetings».
— Pérsio Glória de Paula, Researcher at CIRE
«Participating in the joint seminar was an enriching opportunity for academic exchange and building bridges between Brazil and Russia. We look forward with enthusiasm to more initiatives like this, which strengthen international research cooperation between our countries».
— Maria Eduarda Carvalho de Araujo, Researcher at CIRE
