Albert "Albie" Louis Sachs (born 1935) – anti-apartheid activist and a chief architect of South Africa’s post-apartheid Constitution. In 1988, he was the target of a car bombing by South African security agents, which cost him his right arm and sight in one eye. In 1994, Albie Sachs was appointed by Nelson Mandela to serve on the Constitutional Court, where he served until 2009 and was the author of the Court's majority judgments on discrimination law. Sachs has 14 honorary degrees across four continents, won the Alan Paton Award for his books twice, and received multiple awards for his achievements.
