Intellectual Lab: Youth in the City
The Academic Coordinator of the Intellectual Lab: Prof. Elena Omelchenko, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology
Young people are reflective, critical and competent in relation to social problems and processes, that allows researchers to call them "expert citizens". However, they are often excluded from solving urban problems by professionals because they are seen as apathetic and apolitical.
Therefore, it is important to provide youth with the right to agency in the development of urban environments, to learn what solutions of urban problems they see as the most effective.
This laboratory is aimed at the realization of such possibility of youth co-participation. Within this intellectual laboratory, students will develop 4 projects aimed at developing new creative solutions to the challenges they face. Cases will focus on urban infrastructure for young people, social inclusion and youth policy.
The program will implement an opportunity to develop critical thinking through the analysis of real cases, collaboration skills, communication and creativity through the development of projects aimed at problems solving.
