4th Eastern Conference on Football Economics / 6th Western Conference on Football and Finance
International Scientific Conference on Football and Finance will take place at HSE University – Saint Petersburg in 2020, July 1-3. The conference is organized by Higher School of Economics, New Economic School, and the University of Reading. The submission period will be open until February 1.
Sport research conferences have already become a fine tradition at HSE University – Saint Petersburg. Laboratory of Sport Studies has been gathering scholars interested in the topic at April International Academic Conference for several years. Conference on Football Economics has been held in conjunction with New Economic School since 2017.
The organizers collaborated with foreign colleagues who traditionally held the conference in Western Europe (particularly, professor Bernd Frick). Thus, since the year of 2020, the conference will get a double name because of a double-counting: 4th Eastern Conference on Football Economics / 6th Western Conference on Football and Finance.
Eastern and Western Europe will take turns hosting the conference every year. HSE Saint Petersburg will host the conference over the days of Euro-2020 quarter-final. The University of Reading, in turn, will host the conference in 2021.
Stefan Shimanski, one of the ‘Footballonomics’ authors and, presumably, one of the most cited sports economists, to be the key speaker in the conference in Saint Petersburg. Helmut Dietl (University of Zurich), David Forrest (University of Liverpool), Robert Simmons (University of Lancaster) will present their reports on a plenary session.
Wide variety of topics in football industry economics and finance will be discussed at the conference: financial fair-play consequences, success factors for football, football league regulations, tournament rules settings, football analytics, football betting, football games scheduling, league competitive balance, etc.
Applications for participation and reports presentation are open on the conference website until February 1. In the event of being accepted full papers must be submitted by May 1. Discussants will be assigned to all the speakers.
A special section of student presentations is supposed to take place, so student work papers are very welcome. We are waiting for your applications!
