The first Open Lab

Event ended

On February 9, the first Open Laboratory will be held at HSE University St – St Petersburg. Open Lab is a mass action when everybody can test their own scientific literacy.

Participants will have 30 minutes to answer 25 questions from different areas of knowledge, for instance, if a whole family can have breakfast in one animal cell, or whether all metals are sturdier than wood, etc.

All correct answers will we revealed immediately by the ‘head of lab’, a person who knowsalmost everything about natural sciences! Participants will have opportunities to raise follow-up questions.

The most interesting is waiting for participants at the end of the event. They are invited to listen to a fascinating lecture ‘The history of DNA research: from Mendel's peas to the central dogma of molecular biology’.

The lecture will be delivered by the ‘head of the lab’ Alexey Shpilman, the Director of the Centre for Data Analysis and Machine Learning at HSE University – St Petersburg, the Head of Machine Learning and Data Analysis at JetBrains Research, a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Bioinformatics.

Open Laboratory is held at the universities in 30 countries and online.
