Course Syllabus

Abstract

This course aims to introduce students to the main concepts and rules of scientific activity as well as to base techniques political scientists use to being prepared study politics. This course highlights, first of all, the science component of research activity, rather than it pursuits to answer any substantive political questions. Of course, during the classes, there will be considered real examples of research literature (articles mostly), albeit not for the sake of substantive critics, but rather for the better understanding of how researches in political science are usually done.

  • knows and understands the basic research concepts and is able to distinguish between different genres of academic literature
  • knows what are the specific features of a literature review and is able to search relevant books and articles for their own research projects
  • recognizes the main rules of an academic activity concerning the public talks (including both presentations in the classroom and conference presentations), ways of citing, and the lack of tolerance for plagiarism and any other form of ethics violence in academia
  • is aware of main components of a research work
